17 new jobs just for you! ?? Plus why you should get on our VIP list, ASAP
17 new jobs just for you ?? Plus why you should get on our VIP list, ASAP We need gender neutral dress codes in the workplace. If you dont yet agree with that statement, look no fartherbei than a 55-page presentation given to women executives at Ernst Young in a June 2018 training. pThe presentation, which made headlines last month when an offended participant a href=https//www.huffpost.com/entry/women-ernst-young-how-to-dress-act-around-men_n_5da721eee4b002e33e78606a target=_blankleaked it to the Huffington Post/a, reinforced gendered stereotypes of how women should dress and present themselves at work. Some highlights, which are actually lowlights in terms of equality in the workforce/pul class=ee-ul ee-ulliA list of appearance blunders for women to avoid, including no-nos like too-short skirts, plunging necklines, bottle blonde, flashy jewelry/liliOutfit and grooming suggestions to minimize distractions from your skills sic set like good haircut, manic ured nails, and well-cut attire/liliAdvice on how to dress dont flaunt your body sexuality scrambles the mind/li/ulpThe women, there to invest in their professional development, were not learning how to be better leaders or combat sexist stereotypes at work, but instead were being lectured to about what to wear and how to groom themselves./ppWhile the presentation wasnt the official EampY dress code, it does highlight bias and assumptions made around gender that women have to manage. And this particular training focused only on the male-female binary. Employees who identify as transgender or nonbinary might feel even more burdened by dress code policies based on gender. /ppImagine how much more productive all employees, regardless of gender, could be, if they werent focused on avoiding dress code policing./ppTraditional gender-based dress codes can also discriminate on the basis of race. Many grooming guidelines for women, including rules on acceptable haircuts, are extra burdens f or black employees, particularly those who want to wear their hair in natural styles. a href=https//daily.jstor.org/how-natural-black-hair-at-work-became-a-civil-rights-issue/ target=_blankIn 2010, Chastity Jones got a job offer/a to be a customer service representative from Catastrophe Management Solutionsbut the offer was contingent on her cutting off her locs. When she refused, the company took back the job offer, and when she sued, with the help of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, she lost her case in 2013 and again in 2016, when her appeal was dismissed. /ppAnd beyond forcing women of color to maintain their hair in a way thats deemed acceptable, gender-based dress codes can also discriminate against people of certain religions. Employees whose faiths keep them from cutting their hair or necessitate that they wear certain clothing (including head coverings) shouldnt be forced to adapt their beliefs to what their employer deems professionally appropriate for a woman at work./ppThe possibility for gender-, race-, and faith-based discrimination posed by prescriptive employee dress codes has a href=https//www.hrc.org/resources/workplace-dress-codes-and-transgender-employees target=_blankled the Human Rights Campaign to recommend/a that if an employer has a dress code, it should modify it to avoid gender stereotypes and enforce it consistently. Requiring men to wear suits and women to wear skirts or dresses, while legal, is based on gender stereotypes. Alternatively, codes that require attire professionally appropriate to the office or unit in which an employee works are gender-neutral./ph3Okay, So Gender Neutral Dress Codes Sound Good. What Do They Look Like?/h3pIn their simplest (which, in my opinion, also means best) form, gender neutral dress codes at the workplace can take the form of General Motors dress policy. When now-CEO Mary Barra was VP of global human resources for the automotive giant, a href=https//qz.com/work/1242801/gms-dress-code- is-only-two-words/ target=_blankshe replaced their 10-page dress code with two words/a Dress appropriately. /ppIn the article linked above, the author explains why Barras dress code works so well She avoided assumptions, instead choosing to trust her employees judgment, which in turn empowered all employees and was particularly impactful for women. /ppFor workplaces that need more specificity about what employees can wear, HR should follow in the footsteps of other institutions that have successfully adopted gender-neutral dress codes. Namely, high schools./ppAfter a wave of protests, social media outrage, and thoughtful advocating, a href=https//www.dispatch.com/news/20180919/more-schools-revamping-sexist-dress-codes target=_blankseveral schools have revamped their dress codes/a, which tended to put undue burden on female students. New guidelines apply to all students, regardless of their gender. Instead of specifying the length of skirts versus shorts or the width of a cami strap versus a tank top, a href=https//www.usatoday.com/story/life/parenting/2019/07/15/gender-neutral-dress-code-gets-approval-roanoke-virginia-school-district/1734009001/ target=_blanka Virginia high schools new gender-neutral dress code/a simply defines what must be covered clothing must cover areas from one armpit across to the other armpit, down to approximately three to four inches in length to the upper thighs./ppstrongWhat does that look like at work?/strong /ppSpell out specific dress code rules by article of clothing, not by gender, use non-gendered pronouns, and make sure that any grooming guidelines could apply to anyone. Dont place burdens on anyone based on their gender, and try to empower employees to manage their own appearance in accordance with professional expectations./ppFor geschftsleben casual workplaces, try this, a href=https//www.forbes.com/sites/forbeshumanresourcescouncil/2018/09/28/gender-based-dress-codes-human-resources-diversity-and-legal-impact/355d9f064f53 target=_blankadapted from Forbes/a Employees should dress in business casual attire, which could include casual slacks and skirts, collared shirts, blouses, or sweaters. The Definition and Purpose of At-Will Employment
The Definition and Purpose of At-Will EmploymentThe Definition and Purpose of At-Will EmploymentAt-will employment describes the employment relationship between employers and employees in nearly every state. This type of employment relationship means that the company does not offer tenureor guaranteed employment for any period to any employee without anemployment contract or written direction from the CEO/President. With at-will employment, either the company or the employee can terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause, and with or without notice. Expectations of the Employer At-will employment does not mean that employers can arbitrarily fire employees without good faith communication, fairness, and non-discriminatory practices.Courts are increasingly finding for employees in litigation when the employer tells the employee that he has let him go at-will. Employers must demonstrate a good faith effort to correct the employees wertmiger zuwachs or t he other issues that led to employment termination. The employer needs to document the employees performance problems and the efforts that were made to help the employee improve. This documentation is filed in the employees personnel record. If a lawsuit occurs as a result of employment termination, the employer is protected by the documentation that led up to the employment termination. It is especially true if all of the documents are signed by the employee to indicate that she saw the documents. Expectations of the Employee Likewise, the employee has certain obligations to the employer. Among these are to work with reasonable skill and care, carry out legal employer orders and not disclose confidential company information. Experts recommend that an employee gives his employer two weeks notice when he quits. This notice allows the employer and employee to tidyup loose ends. It also gives the employer the opportunity to begin looking for a new employee before the old one leaves , minimizing the amount of time the position is unfilled. Never Fire an Employee Just Because You Can Because we have at-will employment should never be used as the reason to fire an employee. HR and employment law lawyers advice can differ widely on how much to tell an employee at the termination meeting, but neither HR nor the lawyer would recommend telling the employee that the termination is because the employer can. Its much better to refer to the history of employee performance issues that were documented along the way. Simply tell the employee that because of all of the performance issues discussed in the past, his employment is terminated. Sample Employment At-Will Policy It is a good idea for employers to include an employment-at-will policy in their employee handbooksfor easy reference. The following is a sample which should be customized to your business. The Company does not offer tenureor any other form of guaranteed employment. Either the Company or the employe e can terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. This is called Employment At-Will. This employment at-will relationship exists regardless of any other written statements or policies contained in this Handbook or any other Company documents or any verbal statement to the contrary. Progressive Discipline and Employment At-Will While the Company may elect to follow itsprogressive discipline procedure, the Company is in no way obligated to do so. Using progressive discipline is at the sole discretion of the company in an employment at will workplace. Exceptions to the Employment At-Will Policy No one except The Companys CEO/President can enter into any kind of employment relationship or agreement that is contrary to the previous statement. To be enforceable, such relationship or agreement must be in writing, signed by the CEO/President, and notarized.

6 Basic SDLC Methodologies
6 Basic SDLC Methodologies6 Basic SDLC MethodologiesThe Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) is the software development worlds spellcheck - it can flag errors in software creation before theyre discovered (at a much higher cost) in successive stages. But its much more than that, of course SDLC can also lay out a plan for getting everything right the first time. The SDLC process involves several distinct stages, including planning, analysis, design, building, testing, deployment and maintenance. Whats the best SDLC methodology? Here are six methodologies, or models, to consider.Software development lifecycle methodologiesAgileLeanWaterfallIterativeSpiralDevOpsEach of these approaches varies in some ways from the others, but all have a common purpose to help teams deliver high-quality software as quickly and cost-effectively as possible.Reviewing a brief description of the six most common SDLC methodologies may help you decide which is best for your team1. AgileThe Agile model has b een around for about a decade. But lately, it has become a major driving force behind software development in many organizations. Some businesses value the Agile methodology so much that they are now applying it to other types of projects, including non-tech initiatives. In the Agile model, fast failure is a good thing. The approach produces ongoing release cycles, each featuring small, incremental changes from the previous release. At each iteration, the product is tested. The Agile model helps teams identify and address small issues on projects before they evolve into more significant problems, and engage business stakeholders and get their feedback throughout the development process. As part of their embrace of this methodology, many teams are also applying an Agile framework known as Scrum to help structure more complex development projects. Scrum teams work in sprints, which usually last two to four weeks, to complete assigned tasks. Daily Scrum meetings help the whole team monit or progress throughout the project. And the ScrumMaster is tasked with keeping the team focused on its goal. (For more on Scrum, see the Scrum Alliance website.)2. LeanThe Lean model for software development is inspired by lean manufacturing practices and principles. The seven Lean principles (in this order) are eliminate waste, amplify learning, decide as late possible, deliver as fast as possible, empower the team, build integrity in, and see the whole. The Lean process is about working only on what must be worked on at the time, so theres no room for multitasking. Project teams are also focused on finding opportunities to cut waste at every turn throughout the SDLC process, from dropping unnecessary meetings to reducing documentation. The Agile model is actually a Lean method for the SDLC, but with some notable differences. One is how each prioritizes customer satisfaction Agile makes it the top priority from the outset, creating a flexible process where project teams can respond q uickly to stakeholder feedback throughout the SDLC. Lean, meanwhile, emphasizes the elimination of waste as a way to create more overall value for customers - which, in turn, helps to enhance satisfaction.Ready to fill an open role? Use our candidate finder.3. WaterfallSome experts argue that the Waterfall model was never meant to be a process model for real projects (check out the discussion on this topic on StackExchange). Regardless, the Waterfall model is widely considered the oldest of the structured SDLC methodologies. Its also a very straightforward approach finish one phase, then move on to the next. No going back. Each stage relies on information from the previous stage and has its own project plan. The downside of Waterfall is its rigidity. Sure, its easy to understand and simple to manage. But early delays can throw off the entire project timeline. With little room for revisions once a stage is completed, problems cant be fixed until you get to the maintenance stage. This model doesnt work well if flexibility is needed or if the project is long term and ongoing.Even more rigid is the related Verification and Validation model - or V-shaped model. This linear development methodology sprang from the Waterfall approach. Its characterized by a corresponding testing phase for each development stage. Like Waterfall, each stage begins only after the previous one has ended. This SDLC model can be useful, provided your project has no unknown requirements.4. IterativeThe Iterative model is repetition incarnate. Instead of starting with fully known requirements, project teams implement a set of software requirements, then test, evaluate and pinpoint further requirements. A new version of the software is produced with each phase, or iteration. Rinse and repeat until the complete system is ready.Advantages of the Iterative model over other common SDLC methodologies is that it produces a working version of the project early in the process, and makes it less expen sive to implement changes. One disadvantage Repetitive processes can consume resources quickly. One example of an Iterative model is the Rational Unified Process (RUP), developed by IBMs Rational Software division. As explained in this document from IBM, RUP is a process product designed to enhance team productivity that also captures many of the best practices in modern software development in a form that is suitable for a wide range of projects and organizations.RUP divides the development process into four phases inception, when the idea for a project is set elaboration, when the project is further defined, and resources are evaluated construction, when the project is developed and completed and transition, when the product is released. Each phase of the project involves business modeling, analysis and design, implementation, testing, and deployment.5. SpiralOne of the most flexible SDLC methodologies, the Spiral model takes a cue from the Iterative model and its repetition the pr oject passes through four phases (planning, risk analysis, engineering and evaluation) over and over in a spiral until completed, allowing for multiple rounds of refinement. The Spiral model is typically used for large projects. It enables development teams to build a highly customized product, and incorporate user feedback early on in the project. Another benefit of this SDLC model is risk management. Each iteration starts by looking ahead to potential risks, and figuring out how best to avoid or mitigate them.6. DevOpsThe DevOps methodology is the newcomer to the SDLC scene. As this article explains, it emerged from two trends the application of Agile and Lean practices to operations work, and the general shift in business toward seeing the value of collaboration between development and operations staff at all stages of the SDLC process. In a DevOps model, Developers and Operations teams work together closely - and sometimes as one team - to accelerate innovation and the deploymen t of higher-quality and more reliable software products and functionalities. Updates to products are small but frequent. Discipline, continuous feedback and process improvement, and automation of manual development processes are all hallmarks of the DevOps model.Amazon Web Services describes DevOps like this DevOps is the combination of cultural philosophies, practices, and tools that increases an organizations ability to deliver applications and services at high velocity evolving and improving products at a faster pace than organizations using traditional software development and infrastructure management processes. So, like many SDLC models, DevOps is not only an approach to planning and executing work, but also a philosophy that demands significant mindset and culture changes in an organization.Choosing the right SDLC model for your software development project will require careful thought. But keep in mind that a methodology for planning and guiding your project is only one ingr edient for success. Even more important is assembling a solid team of skilled talent committed to moving the project forward through every unexpected challenge or setback.bewerbungsinterview technology candidates right awayIf youre hiring an IT pro, we can help make the process easier. Reapplying for a Job After Being Rejected
Reapplying for a Job After Being Rejected Reapplying for a Job After Being Rejected Is reapplying for a job ever appropriate or worthwhile if you have not heard back? Perhaps you were rejected for the jobbut have noticed that the job has been reposted. Theres a couple of ways to look at this. You could take a chance and reapply for the job and face rejection again. Or you could reapply for the job and end up getting an interview. In either case, theres really not much to lose except some time and effort. How do you go about reapplying for a job?The proposition of reapplying for a job can be awkward, but there are ways to ensure that your second application will be noticed and taken into consideration.First, youll want to think about why you were rejected or your resume welches ignored. Is it possible that your resume was poorly formatted and therefore discarded by an applicant tracking system? Maybe it was something you said or did during the screening interview over the phone? It can also be something that was completely out of your control such as the company decided to hire someone else that didnt work out, or the company decided to hold off on hiring someone until now.Once you have an idea of what may have occurred, you will have a better shot at the job.Follow these 8 tips to reapply for a job1 Read through the job advertisement carefully. You will want to notice how the job advertisement was written, the keywords that describe the job, the requirements that may have changed, and the instructions for how to apply. Believe it or not, this is often something that candidates take for granted and skip. You may want to ask a friend to read through the job advertisement with you to make sure you dont miss anything.2 Review the company website and social media accounts.Think about how the corporate culture is displayed for visitors. How can you leverage your skills and personality to demonstrate that you are a perfect fit for the corporate culture? When you reappl y this time, you may want to include a cover letter that talks to these points. You also want to identify who the point of contact is for the job and send a copy of your resume directly to them.3 Learn more about the goals for the job.Maybe when you applied before you were only seeing the surface of things. Its important to note the overall goals of the company and how this job will be a part of this. If its a management role then dig even deeper into recent news, financial reports, and more to understand how this job fits into the bigger picture.4 Use a different email address when reapplying for a job. This is a little trick that no hiring manager will reveal. The email address you use to register for and apply for a job is tied to a user account with an applicant tracking system. This means any subsequent jobs you apply for and get a rejected for (whether before or after talking with a recruiter) will be tracked under that user account. Take a fresh approach by establishing a pr ofessional email and then re-registering under that email address. This makes you look like a brand new candidate.5 Improve your resume format and content. It is easy to get in a rut and keep using the same resume over and over again to apply for jobs. In a more competitive job market, you must look at this document as a sales oriented presentation. This means your resume could use an overhaul. Take the time to break down your top skills and include them in a strong career summary at the top of your resume, just under contact information. Include your employment experiences going back only 10 years. Use job-specific keywords to come up when a hiring manager searches their pool of applicants. Do this for every job you apply for.You can generate a list of keywords here6 Connect with colleagues.Make use of the connections that you have in the industry to gain insight about the company and its hiring practices. If you know of others who have worked at the company, invite them for coffe e and approach the topic of getting referred this time. Learn if there are issues happening within the company influencing hiring decisions currently, or if there are new opportunities opening up soon.7 Follow up as often as necessary. Here is where a lot of candidates simply give up. Once getting a rejection, they walk away and never follow up. This is not a good way to get a job. Instead, think like a salesperson and dont take No as your final answer. Send a thank you card to the recruiter you spoke to letting them know you appreciate their consideration and understand their decision at this time. Then, check back in every two weeks with alternating emails, phone calls, and mailed copies of your resume.8 Increase your odds of being hired. In many communities, companies only hire through staffing agencies or associations. Be sure to increase your odds of getting on the radar with a dream company by registering for all the staffing and temporary agencies you can. Join industry assoc iations, volunteer with community organizations where you can attend events and business mixers in your region - very often for free. Make strategic contacts and establish yourself as a highly skilled expert looking for a career opportunity. All of this activity makes you more visible to employers.Remember to take the time to create a brand for yourself as a job seeker, through a combination of your resume and online social media profiles. Be proactive and consistent and those companies rejecting you will be knocking on your door with job offers.
